This piece of work is about the relationship we have with objects. The title of this piece is 'The One You Left Behind', is like saying it’s all I have left of you. It’s about love and loss and holding onto something that is trash to someone but can mean something intimate and special to someone else. It also speaks about being discarded and left behind by people after they have moved on. This one I painted in the traditional 15th century 'Flemish Technique', where the first layer is a grisaille layer, then a detailed black and white layer and subsequent layers of transparent and opaque colour is added. The idea is to create more depth and more realistic lighting effects. |
