This series explores surface, texture and perception through closely observed sections of worn and overlooked material. Cracks, markings, paint, gravel and layers of abrasion are rendered with careful attention to focus, tone and detail, transforming fragments of ordinary surfaces into quiet, atmospheric images.

At first, the paintings can appear abstract, with lines, textures and tonal shifts functioning as formal elements within the composition. Through the precision of their rendering, however, the surfaces gradually become recognisable, shifting the image back towards representation. This movement between abstraction and recognition becomes central to the experience of the work.

By isolating and enlarging these fragments, the paintings alter how such surfaces are normally encountered. What is usually passed over unnoticed is held in place, inviting a slower and more attentive way of looking.
