Portrait Commissions

Simon Taylor accepts a limited number of portrait commissions each year.

Developed with the same attention to light, structure and surface that defines his wider practice, these paintings seek a balance between likeness, atmosphere and observation.

Each portrait begins with photographic references created specifically for the painting, usually through a dedicated sitting arranged in discussion with the sitter. The painting is then developed gradually over several weeks through careful control of focus, tone, surface and detail.

Paintings are produced in oil on either panel or canvas, depending on the nature and scale of the work. Finished paintings are presented in a simple, considered frame selected to complement the painting.

Each painting is developed with careful attention given to atmosphere, structure, focus and surface.

Commissions are undertaken on a limited basis.
